Taleen Heath, B(SW)

My name is Taleen Heath, and I am a registered social worker with a passion to walk on a road of self-discovery with you. I work from multiple therapeutic approaches but use the person-centred approach as the foundation of my work. This means that during our counselling process I try to understand you as how you see yourself. I believe in the potential that all people can find solutions that they are comfortable with. Making use of other therapeutic skills, we can explore the problem and solutions in a safe, understanding and accepting environment.

I’d Love to Help

My Approach & Philosophy

I feel as a counsellor, I will always be working on my “philosophy” because it changes so often with the new aspects I learn about human behaviour. I believe in meeting my clients where they are in their lives, and not try to push them to a place where I think they need or should be.

This must be the most challenging part of working in the field of counselling. It would be easy to give somebody all the answers that sound right – but this would be to deny the person their right to self-actualise. All people have one basic aim: to actualise, maintain and develop their total selves. We all possess the tendency towards accepting important experiences into awareness, which is called self-actualising. We all have our “truths” that we live by, however, sometimes our truths are a little distorted and a person might feel uncomfortable to the idea of adapting to a new way of being.

With the above paragraph, this would then define my approach. My approach is to create a conducive environment where a person can explore these “uncomfortable blocks” in a safe environment. Being able to be open and honest about how you truly feel or view situations in your life would enable us to think of solutions with a renewed perspective.

I believe that all people should have a space where they can be totally themselves – get angry if you feel angry; cry if you feel sad; feel accepted when you feeling rejected by others… I offer this space with love, acceptance and warmth to ALL of my clients.
